Our nation’s power grid is changing rapidly,” says Kyle Raabe, president of Generac’s Consumer Power Division with more than two decades of expertise in the energy industry. One of the major changes in our lifetimes is the fundamental way in which we generate and distribute electricity, and it’s critical for all electrical contractors to understand this transition to effectively enable their customers to navigate the complexities of Grid 2.0.

Kyle says the topics covered in his presentation are vitally important to anyone working in the industry, regardless of title or experience. Electrical contracting firm owners and principals need to have a clear understanding of how the changes happening to the grid provide new challenges and opportunities to the industry.

They will walk away from the presentation with a better understanding of how to guide their firms to best position themselves for growth,” Kyle says.

Similarly, contractors themselves need to understand the new skillsets and capabilities that they need to have in the Grid 2.0 era, especially in the areas of clean energy and backup power. They need to understand what these skillsets are, how to develop them, and how they can benefit from them in their career.

Kyle says Grid 2.0 is changing the electrical industry in several ways that are critical to electrical contractors:

  • Consumer dependence on electricity will continue to grow
  • Power will come from many more sources than we know today
  • Load and energy control will take place at the utility level, and individual business and homeowner level
  • Storage will be a key element to stabilize renewables
  • Uptime of equipment and power generation sources will be more critical than ever

Our grid is fundamentally changing, and the electrical contracting trades will play a significant role in that transformation, both in the residential and commercial segments,” Kyle concludes. “Generac is proud to partner with the IEC and is very excited to take part in our first SPARK conference. In addition to my presentation, we’ll have a large booth with representatives from our various business groups including consumer power, commercial & industrial power, and clean energy, who are looking forward to sharing more about Generac and how we can partner to set you up for success in the Grid 2.0 era.

“We’re also excited to share our Aligned Contractor program that’s designed specifically for IEC members who want to enter the backup power category. Generac Aligned Contractors are able to purchase and install Generac products through their existing wholesale partner. They also have exclusive access to business tools and resources, including co-branded marketing materials, generator sizing tools, and a job quote builder.
